2021 - Menu Design & Layout

The brief for this menu design entailed capturing the essence of the restaurant through typographic means.

After researching the brand, locations, and menu, I set out to create a design in the style of abstract expressionism, a theme heavily used throughout the decor of the restaurant’s dining room.

The design plays with space and layout in an unconventional way. Instead of creating clear divides between sections I used the typographic layout to do create separation and delineation between the different areas of the menu.

Initial research into the restaurant's interior design choices led me to target abstract expressionism as a main point of focus for the menu design. Using this era in art as a launch pad I was able to make bold design choices while still allowing for readability within the layout. Everything from the layout to the colour scheme was influenced by the work from this era's 1940s and 1950s style of modern art.
